Graffiti - Another thing that the Ukiah Police don't do...
In addition to no longer enforcing the leash law in the city limits, and not enforcing the animal waste portion of the leash law, and not enforcing speeding at City Hall, stop sign violations at City Hall, stop sign violations at City Hall by Ukiah Police officers not in emergent situations, and a host of other things no longer enforced, the Ukiah Police are also doing nothing about graffiti.
Graffiti has popped up all over town. Why?
Because there is an absence of police presence. In a vacuum, it tends to suck. Right?
CSO Officer Freeman stated that Ukiah Police are "too busy solving murders" to do the minimum of enforcing the leash law. I assume this excuse applies to all the other shit that the UPD are no longer doing. Ukiah must be the murder capital of California. Perhaps, or the United States! So many murders (1-a-year), so little time (they have all the time in the world).
It isn't about resources. I debunked that in my video here.
This is about doing the job. Doing the job is the problem.
The Ukiah Police are not law enforcement officers. They are a mop-up crew that comes to crime scenes after the fact, and writes reports. They are homeless shepherds; rather than dealing with the problem, they simply move the homeless from this spot to that spot. They return at some point, herding them to yet another spot.
Read the Ukiah Police call logs. Counseled and advised. GOA/UTL; gone on arrival, unable to locate. Over and over and over. Homeless Shepherds and a mop-up crew. This isn't law enforcement.
The reason that graffiti has become a plague is the fault of LAW ENFORCEMENT. Law enforcement is failing to enforce the law. These facts are seen by more people than just me. In a vacuum, bad shit breeds and expands.
The Ukiah city government is spending time and money, albeit partially donated money, on ice rinks and veiled Christian displays at City Hall. On recreation, versus on services to the residents. I have lived in towns that put money towards graffiti eradication, versus funding unnecessary recreation which should be provided by the private sector. If the City of Ukiah made the town business-friendly, and businesses didn't need to wrangle for 2 decades to open up, Ukiah would likely have entertainment like skate rinks. We used to have a skating rink. We could have one again... but city policies and management make it less attractive then setting up shop in other communities.
I lived in a city that had a graffiti eradication program. Graffiti shows up on your property? Pick up the phone, call a number, report it... and in short order, it is removed by the city. You know... a SERVICE, instead of the city effectively setting up a for-profit lemonade stand (skating rink) on city property... so they can fund the inflated salaries of those in City Hall that are choosing to hawk for-profit recreation over provided much-needed services... like graffiti eradication.
Have graffiti? Email the City Manager at ssangiacomo@cityofukiah.com. Tell Sage to make better decisions.
This statement might seem insensitive, because of the history of this city. So, stop reading.
I completely understand how Jonestown could spring from Ukiah. The mindset, even in city government, appears to be on a socialist model, at least for those employed by City Hall. The side-hustles that this city government funds, bring profit to the city... not to provide services to the population, but to feed the monkey at City Hall. Side-hustles. City-owned parking, parking fines for the city and street parking. Camp Covid, the babysitting service during the summer months at Todd Grove. What was it? One thousand per kid, per month for Camp Covid? A $114K skating rink,,, and all the manpower/equipment to assemble and disassemble the mess. All to feed the $189K/yr monkey at City Hall.
You know, the monkey that can pay fleets of leaf blowers to blow leaves daily at City Hall, but who won't do one damned thing about your graffiti. They won't enforce the laws to prevent the graffiti, or at least minimize it. They won't remove it from your property. Call Sage. See for yourself.
